Jacksonville, Florida - Romance for a couple or just a great adventure for singles

Who would have thought that the city of Jacksonville, Florida is actually the largest city in the United States in acreage, 841 square miles. Not only does it have that recognition, but it is also has the largest population of all the cities in Florida. What an ideal place to harbor some beautiful Florida vacation rentals.

On Florida's East Coast, you see a southern lifestyle with its close proximity to Georgia but the beaches that can only be attested to in Florida. There are not only beaches but rivers, pine woods and plenty of history. People seeking the enjoyment of the Florida sun will remain on the beaches. At one point, the film industry had 30 silent film studios and tried to establish itself in Jacksonville due to the warm climate, but due to its heavy southern religious zealots, it soon scared off the industry which later made it's marketing in California.

One of the lovely aspects that Jacksonville maintained was creating beautiful parks and boardwalks. The size of the city, though makes it impossible to take everything in.

It is documented in history that in 1562, the Protestants landed here and tried to establish a colony, but had a terrible ending. In 1493, Ponce de Leon originally landed here. (Actually St. Augustine). He returned to Spain but returned here in 1513 in and about St. Augustine and dubbed this land, Florida which in Spanish means Land of Flowers.

Many great ships came into the ports in Jacksonville and some have remained, with their sunken treasures of gold, right off the coast. There still remain some of the tiny houses that existed back then and forts and the multi-cultural ethnicity revealing French, Spanish, English and Africans.

Today, Jacksonville, is a modern-day booming banking capital and the site of many headquarters for insurance companies. Now, the only French spoken are the words mortgage and champagne.

Cast your eyes downward to view the city of Jacksonville from their skyway monorail. There is the beautiful Florida Theater where Elvis Presley sang his first on-stage appearance. The city is filled with museums to include the Museum of Science and History, the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and many more. Jacksonville Landing is a very popular attractions hosting over 300 events a year including sports and many famous charitable events. The beautiful Ritz Theater which was remodeled in 1999 was originally opened in 1929. Restored to its beautiful traditional spectacular theater, you can view many plays and theater shows.

The Jacksonville Landing, located downtown on the north bank of the St. Johns River, is a blossoming arts district and gathering place. Jacksonville is recognized as one of the Top 25 Art Districts in country. This retail and entertainment center has amazing attractions with festivals, and cultural sophistication. You can get your retail therapy with all the little shops in the Regency Square Mall, Five Points, The Avenues and St. Johns Tower Center.

Top it all off with some of the most eclectic restaurants where you can consume seafood from the coastal waters. Some people pull their boats right up to the docks which are outside of many restaurants.

During winter, there is actually a bit of short-lived cold which comes through the city. And the last hurricane that Jacksonville experienced was in 1871. The Jacksonville cultural scene is amazing for both residents and visitors to enjoy. From its historic multicultural and film industry roots to world-class festivals, symphonic events and Broadway productions to hip art galleries and renowned museums hosting contemporary, Renaissance and up-and-coming masterpieces, experience cultural enlightenment in Northeast Florida. There is such a flare for entertainment and a zest for life in this decadent city, and yet amidst it all, you can smell the scent of the botanical aromas ranging from apricot blossoms, jasmine and lavender.

This is one of THE vacation spots in Florida because there is so much to do, some cannot even cover it in a week's vacation time. That's why they keep returning. The best thing to do is rent a vacation home from one of Florida's many vacation rentals and you can enjoy your day at the beach, sightseeing - all the excitement and relaxation you could want. You could even be fishing off a pier off of your dock in your vacation rental.
